Come breeding season next month, what would be the likely senario if:
I gave the three girls each a nest or two in the large flight cage and introduced Joselito into the cage - if or when they build nests? Would he pick one of the girls as his mate and try to raise a clutch with one of them? Would he try to mate with all three and go crazy trying to provide for all three hens? Would there be fighting amongst the girls over him? Is this a good or bad idea to attempt? Are Joselito and Marisol getting too old to try to breed? This year is most likely the last time I will try to breed any birds. Still wouldn't mind carrying on your Timbrado lines for another generation, Bea. Fingers crossed, they are the healthiest canaries I've owned so far. Bob |

Many people breed canaries in a colony set-up but I think it's very stressful to them andI don't think it would work well with timbrados. I always bred them in individual cages that had only the front open and in closed nests (the ones that look like little boxes). They don't like to have other birds around them when they are breeding... I always thought that the reason why you have not been able to breed them was because your set-up was too open so, if you ask me, I would put them in the kind of cage I told you about with a box nest. But, no, they are not getting too old to breed them.
I am going to breed a pair this year, too. I have a couple of people that have been asking me for some of my babies (one of them for two years but just one clutch and no more than four eggs, as always. I have to see who because there are already two pairs matched up -on their own, mind you! because they are all loose in the birdroom now (I saw the males feeding the females so half the work is already done) and one of the males is 8 years old so, as you can see, Joselito and Marisol are definitely not too old. _________________ Bea & Birds
